Why Do We Need More Trees During Coronavirus?

While the whole world is panicking, and everyone thinks about isolation, social distancing, and quarantine, more and more people are becoming depressed in their houses. This is a valid emotion as the feelings that are brought by the isolation and loneliness trigger negative effects on the brain. Health and safety are of paramount importance, but there are also ways on how to keep a healthy mind amid the global crisis that is becoming more and more prevalent in each passing day. One of these is to keep in touch with nature. Although everyone is forced to stay inside their homes, you can still experience to connect with nature and be healthy with your activities at home. The following are the things you can do.

1.Plant Trees and Breathe Fresh Air

Reforestation is still happening in different parts of the world, despite the stall and the pause that the coronavirus has enforced to many people around the globe. One of the most positive and beneficial things you can do at home is to plant trees for the future. You may also plant small plants in order to be able to breathe fresh air and encourage the whole neighborhood to begin creating more green spaces for healthier air in the community. There are plant services and tree removal companies you may hire to achieve a professional-like green space project.

2.Think about the reduction of carbon footprints

Because travels are paused, stopped, and canceled in different parts of the world, this provides a significant drop to the carbon emissions that plane industries induce due to the pandemic. It has been reported that China and Italy are experiencing an improvement in water and air quality since lockdown and quarantine began.

3.Cleanup for an outdoor experience

Since social distancing needs to be still practiced, most people are forced to retire from going to parks, camping sites, and other public spaces. The most productive outdoor activity that provides positive vibes is to clean up certain spaces in the neighborhood or community. In this way, you will have a fun, productive, and healthy outdoor walk, while helping the community be cleaned by taking a tote bag and picking up trash.

4.Eat what you bought

It is reported that Western countries, most especially the United States, produce the highest percentage of food waster all around the globe, while countries in the global south such as the Sub-Saharan Africa continue starving. The most productive, helpful, thing you can do inside your house that also brings you a positive mindset is to eat what you bought and do not buy until the food resources in the house have been eaten. This will also lessen the frequency of going to public grocery stores to buy food and stuff that most probably will just be tossed into the trash.

The Takeaway

It is a valid thing to be sad and think negatively amid the global crisis we are experiencing. However, it becomes our choice to dwell in this negative emotion and mindset. Being proactive would help anyone to think positively and be productive while also lending a hand to the world.

Amid Pandemic, The Multi-Year Tree-Planting Campaign Continues with Smaller Efforts

Because of the prevailing effects and destruction brought by global warming, the passion that drives the global societies to plant trees is getting stronger. In different cities and states, there are a number of organizations that work on achieving this objective. In Greenfield, for instance, there is an effort to plant trees in order to provide a good, healthy air for the years to come; however, most of their activities were paused due to the Corona outbreak.

Despite the need to pause, the organization still does small jobs on achieving its objective to plant 800 new trees in the city of Greenfield. Also, tree companies and tree removal services are still on the go and are still providing their quality service to keep the neighborhood and the whole community maintains their ever-hard-earned green spaces. Activities such as these are important to provide fresher air to the people in response to the growing depression and negative thinking that have been propagating in the minds of the people who are forced to shut down their normal daily routine because of the outbreak.

The 800 trees objective of the community of Greenfield is actually a resolution for the riding issue of dying trees which were planted several years ago. Since these trees were planted simultaneously, and so simultaneously they have started to die off in this year, and this creates a problem in the community. This effort has been provided by a grant from the United States Forest Service to the Franklin Land Trust, which is also very passionate and enthusiastic in supporting the community’s greener objectives. This grant also provides new trees to plant in North Adams and Montague for up to 2,400 trees altogether.

To celebrate Arbor Day, Greenfield started its planting season at the Veterans Mall which was a continuation of their canceled initial plan to plant trees on April 30, again, due to the coronavirus outbreak. And although the whole community needed to readjust just to realize and continue the plan, the whole activity was a success, and a step nearer to their main objective. In order to be productive for the whole year round, the community plans on coordinating for a planting project that might happen this fall. They want to at least take baby steps in order to finally achieve and plant 800 trees this year.

It was also reported that the community was able to achieve a very big planting project 60 years ago, and the trees that were planted in this project have started to die, thus the community feels the need for replacement.

What is good and inspiring about the residents of the city of Greenfield is that all of them are passionate about contributing and continue their journey on providing their community with a greener environment with fresher air. Despite the need to pause and slow down their activities, the whole community is still doing its baby steps to achieve its goal to plant 800 trees.

If more and more people share the same sentiments, there will be more trees that could support the needs of the future generation.

Fearing Shortages, People Are Planting More Vegetable Gardens

After the Coronavirus outbreak, the world has stopped its activities and these include people and their daily activities, business’ activities, and other things that were normal before. This created a huge change in how people deal with their lives including going out to buy necessary food and stuff. In response to this, people are growing their food in their backyard as this provides them more food on their table and less effort to go outside and take risks just to buy what to eat.

Because of the lockdown, some governments need to provide food for their citizens, and this is what is happening to Asian countries with smaller economies. And although canned goods and instant food can pacify a hungry stomach, there is a need to eat healthy foods that are natural and organic. This is where growing veggies and edible plants in the backyard or garden have become relevant to everyone.

There are many ways to make steps on making your own garden and growing your own food, such as landscape and tree service to be able to clear up and make a good, spacious space for your veggie garden. Or you can do DIYs while at the same time researching and asking advice from the experts in the field. The State University’s Master Gardener program was able to see the need to grow personal food and the rising enthusiasm of the homeowners towards this hobby and they made their online veggie gardening course free up until the last week of April. This becomes very prominent that their post was shared 21,000 times on Facebook and had reached a wide audience and readers.

One of the good ripples of this new-found hobby of everyone amid the pandemic is the demand for veggies seeds. In fact, the executive chairman of Burpee Seed Company in Warminster, Penn, stated in an interview that he had never seen a spike this high when it comes to seedlings demands. He made some comparisons to the stock market back in 1987, 2000, and 1970s.

But the most important thing that has happened out of the growing interest in producing their own food, is the rising number of people planting and creating more greener spaces in their properties and communities. This creates a huge impact on different aspects of nature and human interaction. Because more and more households are planting, this will boost the production of oxygen and the consumption of carbon dioxide from the environment, leading to fresher air and slowing the global warming effects.

Because of the crises, people, from all walks of life, are experiencing hardships and difficulties in different aspects of their lives. One of the ways on how to be productive and keep a good outlook is to use the little number of resources that we have and propagate more from these little resources. Growing our own food is very effortless and probably the cheapest hobby one can ever do; however, this provides many benefits: food, fresher air, good mental state, productivity, and a healthier environment.
